ผ้าริม (Selvedge)

เส้นขอบริมของผ้า ซึ่งถือเป็นสัญลักษณ์สากลที่บ่งบอกถึงคุณภาพของผ้าทอสีครามหนึ่งผืน จุดประสงค์ของการทอขอบริมผ้า คือเพื่อความเรียบร้อย ไม่มีเศษด้ายหลุดลุ่ยออกมา ทำให้มีความทนทานในการใช้งานมากกว่าผ้ายีนส์ที่ทอจากเครื่องทอสมัยใหม่ โดยปกติผ้าริมจะสามารถทอได้ด้วยเครื่องทอผ้าแบบเก่า (Shuttle Loom) ซึ่ง ข้อแตกต่างสำคัญของเครื่องทอผ้ารุ่นใหม่กับรุ่นเก่า ก็คือขนาดของหน้าผ้า ในระยะเวลาการทอที่เท่ากัน กระบวนการทอผ้าริมจะมีความกว้างเพียงครึ่งเดียวของผ้าไม่มีริม รวมไปถึงการใช้ทักษะมากกว่าในการใช้เครื่องทอแบบเก่า

The selvedge refers to the white edge of a piece of fabric that secures the edge of the fabric and prevents unraveling. Selvedge denim are made out of denim woven on an old-style shuttle loom with a continuous weft and a narrow width (usually around thirty inches).

เป๊ก (Rivet)

หมุดย้ำที่ใช้สำหรับเพิ่มความทนทานให้แก่กางเกงยีนส์ในจุดขาดได้ง่าย เนื่องจากถูกเสียดสีมาก ซึ่งคือบริเวณขอบกระเป๋าด้านหน้า และกระเป๋าหลังของกางเกง

กางเกงยีนส์ของ Selvedgework จะมีการตอก Rivet ด้วยมือ อยู่ที่บริเวณขอบกระเป๋าด้านหน้าทั้ง 2 ฝั่งเท่านั้น ไม่มีการตอก Rivet ที่กระเป๋าหลัง แต่จะใช้การเย็บ Bar Tack (แซ็ค) แทนเพื่อป้องกันการระคายเคือง และเสียดสีเวลานั่ง

Rivet is a metal accessory that is used to reinforce stress points and serve as non-functional ornamentation.

Selvedgework jeans are hand-riveted on both sides of the front pocket. No Rivet on the back pocket. Bar Tack will be used instead to prevent irritation.

แซ็ก (Bar Tack)

ขั้นตอนการเย็บย้ำด้วยด้ายความถี่สูงที่ช่วยเพิ่มความทนทานให้แก่กางเกงยีนส์

สำหรับกางเกงยีนส์ของ Selvedgework จะมีเย็บ Bar Tack ทั้งหมด 5 จุด คือ บริเวณเป้า (ก้นสาบซิบ/กระดุม), หูเข็มขัด, ตะเข็บข้างกระเป๋าหน้า, ขอบกระเป๋าหลัง และขอบกระเป๋าใส่เหรียญ

การเย็บลูกโซ่ (Chain Stitch/Double Stitch)

รูปแบบการเย็บที่มีการออกแรงดึงในแนวทแยง ทำให้เกิดลักษณะพิเศษขึ้นเมื่อผ่านการใช้งานเป็นระยะเวลานาน เรียกว่า “Roping Effect” ซึ่งการเย็บแบบลูกโซ่นั้นจะมีต้นทุนสูงกว่าการเย็บแบบธรรมดา (Lock Stitch) แต่แลกกับความสวยงาม และความคลาสสิคที่มากกว่า

Chain stitching is the traditional stitch used to hem jeans, and creates a “Roping Effect” (rippled fading at the hem). The chain stitch is created when a threaded needle is pushed through one side of the fabric then pushed back through from the opposite side. This simple back-and-forth technique will create a loop on the underside of the fabric.
